TJNAF is currently authorized to discharge under the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) and the Virginia Stormwater Management Act (VSMA) through the VAR04 General Permit for Discharges of Stormwater from Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) that was issued on November 1, 2023 (Permit #VAR040079). The VAR04 permit requires the development and implementation of a stormwater management program through the use of six Minimum Control Measures (MCMs) that include: public education and outreach on stormwater impacts, public involvement/participation; illicit discharge detection and elimination; construction site stormwater runoff control; post-construction stormwater management in new development and redevelopment; and pollution prevention/good housekeeping for municipal operations. A copy of the most recent Program Plan can be found here.
TJNAF is in its first 5-year permit cycle, which spans July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2028.
The Best Management Practices described in the permit program plan are expected to reduce stormwater pollutant discharge from TJNAF.
