Chapter 9: Evacuation
Procedure for Drills and Actual Events |
1.0
Purpose
Evacuation drills are conducted to familiarize staff with fire alarm and evacuation routes, test the process of accounting for all personnel known to be in the building, and evaluate staff response to an alarm. An actual event evacuation follows the same process steps as an evacuation drill minus preparation and alarm activation.
At least one evacuation drill, for the Required Buildings listed below, is performed each calendar year by the designated Evacuation Drill Coordinator and in accordance with International Fire Code; Section 405 Emergency Evacuation Drills and DOE G 151.1-4 Section 7.3.8 Accountability. An actual event, that causes an evacuation, may serve as a qualifying evacuation drill if it is documented as described in the procedure process steps.
